PEOPLE WHO STAND BESIDE YOU

A serious charge.
A considered defence.

Being charged is not the same as being found guilty. Your circumstances deserve individual attention.

At L&B LLP’s North York office, the conversation starts with what you are facing and the assistance you need. We coordinate consultation arrangements, language support and follow-up so you know whom to contact and what to prepare.

Brian Brody · Criminal Defence Lawyer

Brian’s practice includes impaired driving, assault, theft, fraud, drug and firearms allegations. His published professional biography lists an Ontario call to the bar in 2010 and experience representing individuals in Ontario criminal courts.

Ask our office about counsel’s availability, the proposed scope of representation and the arrangements for your matter.

THE L&B APPROACH

Why work
with us?

A legal concern affects more than a court date. You should understand the proposed work, how to communicate with the team and the arrangements before moving forward.

A considered approach.Attention to the details that matter.
01

A defence built around your matter

A charge does not tell the whole story. The proposed approach should reflect the allegation, the available information and your individual circumstances.

02

Fees explained before engagement

Ask about flat fee options, what the scope includes and whether taxes or disbursements are additional. No hidden fees means confirming the arrangements clearly, in writing.

03

Payment options to discuss

Ask about flexible payment arrangements that may be available for your matter. Availability and the payment schedule are confirmed with the office.

04

Communication you can follow

Tell us your preferred language and whether translation or interpretation is needed. Our assistants help coordinate appointments and follow-up communications.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR LEGAL NEEDS

The allegation is only
the starting point.

Explore common enquiries below, then speak with the office about a consultation specific to your situation.

DUI / Impaired Driving

Driving-related criminal charges can create uncertainty about your licence, work and day-to-day responsibilities. An initial conversation helps identify the allegation, the stage of the proceedings and the representation you are seeking.

Assault Charges

The details matter. Legal counsel can examine the disclosure, identify issues for discussion and explain the options relevant to the allegations. Tell our office about upcoming appearances and any conditions you have been given.

Domestic Assault

A family-related allegation can make everyday decisions more difficult. Ask about legal representation and how to arrange a consultation concerning the charge and any release conditions. Do not send sensitive personal details through this website.

Drug Charges

Drug allegations may involve several kinds of evidence. The legal work begins with understanding the charge and the available disclosure, followed by a discussion of the issues and a proposed approach specific to the matter.

Theft & Fraud

Financial and property allegations can involve records, transactions and competing accounts of events. Ask what information counsel needs, how it should be shared and what the proposed scope of representation includes.

Bail Hearings

Bail addresses release while a case is before the court; it is not the trial of the charge. Contact the office directly about time-sensitive enquiries so availability and the information required can be discussed.

Traffic Tickets

Traffic allegations can raise concerns about driving, employment and insurance. The applicable procedure depends on the charge. Provide the type of ticket, the location and any court date when arranging an initial consultation.

Sexual Assault

Sensitive allegations call for careful communication and individual advice. An initial conversation should focus on the type of matter and appointment arrangements. Detailed accounts and documents should be shared only in the manner confirmed by counsel.

ARRESTED? FACING A CHARGE?

You do not have to work out
the next step on your own.

Call our North York office. Let us know your location, the type of allegation and any upcoming court date.

647-340-6600Appointment and representation availability must be confirmed.

FROM FIRST CONTACT TO THE NEXT STAGE

Know what
you are preparing for.

Not every case follows the same sequence. Counsel can explain which steps apply and what needs to happen before the next appearance.

Ontario Court of Justice: court process ↗
Preparation before the next appearance.
01

Arrest or charge

If you have been charged, the first practical task is to identify the allegation, your release paperwork and any scheduled appearance. Contact the office about arranging representation; avoid sending confidential documents before a submission method is confirmed.

02

Bail & release

Where a person is held in custody, bail concerns whether they will be released while the case proceeds. Not every case involves a bail hearing. The office can discuss counsel’s availability and the information needed for a consultation.

03

Disclosure review

Disclosure is the information provided by the prosecution about the case. Reviewing it helps counsel understand the allegations and discuss the issues that may need further attention. Additional information may become available as a case progresses.

04

Preparation & resolution

The next steps depend on the evidence, the charge and the individual circumstances. They may include further preparation, discussions, applications or a trial. Counsel should explain the proposed approach and the scope of the work before you decide how to proceed.

CASE PREPARATION

What a careful review
looks at.

These are areas of legal work, not reported case results. Approved, anonymized L&B case summaries can be added once supplied by the firm.

01 / REVIEW

The allegation

What is charged, where the matter is proceeding and what documents have been provided.

02 / REVIEW

The information

What disclosure is available, what may be missing and what needs to be discussed with counsel.

03 / REVIEW

The relevant issues, preparation required and available options to consider with legal advice.

Upcoming dates, the agreed scope of representation and a plan for keeping you informed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Clear answers to help you start the conversation. For advice on your circumstances, arrange a consultation.

Call 647-340-6600

Questions deserve
clear answers.

Start with a conversation.
Is the initial consultation free?

Yes, an initial consultation is offered without a consultation charge. Please confirm with the office what is included. Further advice, representation and related fees must be agreed separately.

Can I call about an urgent matter?

Call 647-340-6600 and explain any upcoming date or time-sensitive circumstance. Availability must be confirmed with the office. This website does not promise 24-hour staffing or immediate representation.

What information should I have ready?

Your contact details, the type of allegation, the city or court involved and any upcoming dates are a helpful starting point. Ask how to share release documents, tickets or disclosure before sending confidential material.

Do you offer flat fees or payment plans?

Ask about flat fee options and available payment arrangements for your matter. The retainer should identify the services included, exclusions, taxes and disbursements. Additional work or travel may require a separate agreement.

Does a criminal charge mean I am guilty?

A charge is an allegation, not a finding of guilt. The outcome depends on the evidence and the legal process. Speak with counsel about the specific allegation and avoid relying on another person’s result as a prediction for your own matter.

Will my first appearance be my trial?

A first appearance is generally a case-management step rather than a trial. Several appearances may take place as a matter progresses. Check your documents and obtain advice about your own attendance and preparation requirements.

Can you help in Toronto and the GTA?

The North York office welcomes enquiries about Toronto and GTA matters. Tell us where the case is located. Counsel’s availability, court arrangements and any travel-related fees are confirmed before an engagement is agreed.

Does completing an enquiry make you my lawyer?

No. The firm must first confirm it can assist and agree to the engagement. The guided enquiry is a way to organize initial information; it is not legal advice or an acceptance of representation.

A CLEARER NEXT STEP

  • 02

    The location and timing
